Ways to save time and money
The easiest way to save money on your move is to complete your own packing ( see hints below). Get the correct size box and packing materials for your items. If an item can be boxed, go ahead and box it. It is safer with a layer of protection around it than without. Remember, no box should weigh over 40 pounds - a mover still needs to be able to safely manage that box in and out of your home.

Disassemble your own furniture - make sure to leave the screws and hardware in a plastic bag and taped to the underside or back of that item. You may never find them if you put them into another box. If something requires a special tool, tape that tool to the item also. Blue masking tape works the best and leaves the least impression.

Be ready BEFORE the movers arrive - Do not still be packing the morning of your move as it only delays the move. Have items stacked and labeled. If you need additional time or help packing, let the office know.

Keep a clear area - make sure that there is nothing in the way of the movers to move about. Stack your already packed boxes in a corner out of the way versus in the middle of a hallway.
Have enough boxes - there are boxes made for nearly any item. Buy the right box for the job and make sure you have enough supplies. Nothing's worse than to be packing late at night and find out you ran out of tape!

No boxes over 40 pounds - if the box is too heavy for you, then it will be harder for the movers and therefore take more time to move. Don't put all your books or wine collection in one box.

Do not use plastic garbage bags - instead of boxes. Bags are not secure and are likely to tear. Also they cannot stack properly. Movers may have to repack any plastic bags into boxes and thereby adding more time to your move

Pack dishes, glass frames, etc. on its side - and not flat. This lessens the chance of breakage. Wrap all fragile items in unprinted newsprint, tissue, or bubble wrap and fill the empty air pockets in the box with crumpled paper. You want to make sure that if you shake the box, you cannot hear anything moving around inside.

Tape all boxes shut - boxes with open tops lose their contents and are not stackable. Use good quality boxes. Do not use grocery boxes with open bottoms and tops. They tend to fall apart.

Mark the side of the box of its general contents - the movers will not know if there is books or china in a box unless you label the box. Write on the side of the box, and not just the top, as writing is not visible once the boxes get stacked upon each other.

No flammables, open containers or liquids - are allowed on a moving truck. If you are moving long distance, perishables and plants are also prohibited.

We can take plants - on local moves and will do our best to make sure that they arrive safely however we cannot guarantee their condition during the move. Please bundle loose branches together and wrap the base within a plastic bag to prevent from dirt from spilling. Do not water them for the few days prior to the move date.

Particle/fiber board furniture - Due to the inherent nature of this kind of furniture, they cannot usually be disassembled and reassembled. This is because the pins and/or screws that hold the furniture together loosen and will not hold the joints together properly. For the same reason, particleboard or fiberboard furniture usually cannot be transported safely while assembled and the customer must understand the risk involved moving such pieces.

Your old home and new home

Reserve the elevator and/or parking spot - at your residences. Rope it off with cans, cones, etc., or park your car in front of your building the night before for the moving truck the next day. To insure a space, you may need to reserve parking thru your local police department.

Clear the area - leave a path for the movers to be able to quickly and easily carry things in and out of your place.

Make sure the big items will fit - in your new place before the movers try and carry that sofa bed up those 3 flights of stairs.

Know where everything is going to go - in your new home so items can be set in place at once. Have a clear sense of direction. Nothing is more frustrating than having to move a couch three times.

Extra debris and garbage - moving is usually the time you start to clean out those closets. Check to see if your building can accommodate the excess garbage. Do a donation run and dump run before the move date. Now is the time to have that garage sale.
